The restaurant voted by attendees as having the best burger went to Redfire Grill & Steakhouse, which took home People’s Choice Award for their ground beef brisket, chuck and sirloin burger with extra sharp cheddar, maple-pepper lacquered bacon and house-made thousand island dressing.
Chelsea Tavern took Critics’ Choice, and Home Grown Café took Best Alternative Burger for a veggie and chickpea patty with mushrooms, cauliflower, black beans, red and green peppers, onion, garlic and oats. Newcomer Farmer & the Cow placed as runner-up in both categories.
The event was held last Saturday on the grounds of Cauffiel House on Philadelphia Pike, where 17 restaurants set up tasting booths and people sampled to their heart’s content. With music, loads of beer, wine and Stateside vodka drinks to enjoy, the relaxed vibe was a perfect way to spend a casual Saturday afternoon in August in Wilmington.
While the final numbers aren’t in, Burger Battle founder JulieAnne Cross says 2018 will be a record-breaking year for donations to two charities — Food Bank of Delaware and Delaware Prostart.
