TSD: Delaware’s best take on events, community and local life

Happy audiences flocked to see the Candlelight Theatre‘s newest show, “Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?” in Chicago, where it became the city’s longest-running show in the city’s history (4.5 years). Patent Leather also broke box office records in both of its runs in Philadelphia.

“Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?” centers eight children during their elementary and high school years and the funny aspects of adolescence and attempts to survive Catholic school in the 1950’s. The show is an affectionate, amusing look at first confessions, puppy love, patron saints, sex education and the importance of not wearing shiny shoes.

Every number is meant to tickle the funny bone of anyone who ever went to school — public, private or parochial. Based on the 1975 novel by John Powers with music and lyrics by James Quinn and Alaric Jans, …Patent Leather…has become an endearing icon in musical theatre.

Patent Leather runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through August 26th. There is also a special Thursday evening performance on 8/23 and a Wednesday matinee on 8/15.  Visit the Candlelight Theatre for more information.
