Wilmington’s biggest block party kicked off on Friday, when dozens of female singers and songwriters performed some impressive music up and down Market Street.

Now celebrating its 7thyear, the two-day Ladybug Music Festival showcases up and coming artists whose musical styles vary from soul-rock, to R&B, jazz, and modern pop. Festival co-founders Gayle Dillman and Jeremy Hebbel proudly assert that ‘Ladybug’ is the country’s largest celebration of women in music.

Nalini & Sarina, identical twin musician/songwriters from New Jersey, and their band headlined the Friday’s mainstage. Kategory 5 (from Wilmington, DE), Cecilia Grace, McKinley Short, Stacia Lachole (also from Wilmington) and 30 other performers helped attract thousands to the LOMA area of Market Street.

Several local merchants offered gifts, t-shirts, food, and home goods at the festival. And organizers lined up entertainment in between band changeovers, including the DANCE4LIFE School of the Arts and Training Institute, which involved both younger and professional dancers in performances that the audience thoroughly enjoyed on Friday. Their next performance will be at the Rock Lot in Wilmington on Saturday, August 11th.
