The popular Golden Wine Event is back! After a five-hear hiatus, FranksWine owner Frank Pagliaro brought back his highly successful wine and charity fundraiser with a “Pop-Up” Golden Wine Event on February 11th at Harry’s Savoy Ballroom.
The standup cocktail party benefitted Kids Runway for Research, which supports the childhood cancer research program at the Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
Executive Chef David Leo Banks from Harry’s Savoy lead a team of six chefs, who offered incredible cuisine from around the world, including gougères stuffed with chicken liver mousse (France), artisan cavatelli and guanciale pancetta (Italy), and roasted suckling pig with olive and piquillo salad (Spain). There were also South American delicacies and new American dishes from California.
Frank Pagliaro invited 26 wine vendors in addition to his own team from FranksWine to offer wines from the same regions that each food station represented – perfect pairings for the night’s eclectic cuisine.
And for the first time in the history of the Golden Wine Event, Pagliaro asked a few local craft brewers to participate. In all, 80 different wines and 16 craft beers were served, leaving the 175 in attendance more than satisfied with their gastronomic feast.
It’s an enormous undertaking, but Pagliaro enjoys supporting local non-profits and introducing his wine partners to wine lovers in the Wilmington community. Pagliaro previously ran the Golden Wine Event for 13 years, raising nearly $100,000 for Delaware charities. The Golden Wine Event for Kids Runway for Research has raised $5,500, and additional funds are still coming in.
“Without community events like this one we would not be able to assist in funding pediatric cancer research,” said Kids Runway for Research co-founder Sandi Patterson.
“We are so grateful to Frank of FranksWine and Harry’s Savoy Grille for offering their support towards our efforts. It is businesses like these that help to make a difference in our community,” she said.
The Golden Wine Event is one of several fundraisers the all-volunteer non-profit holds throughout the year. The premier fundraiser – the annual fashion show – is held in September during Childhood Cancer Awareness month. For more information visit www.kidsrunwayforresearch.com.
