TSD: Delaware’s best take on events, community and local life

When Wilmington resident Denee Planck received her very first commission check back in 2001, she headed over to Peter Kate Shoes in Greenville to purchase a new pair of heels. “I remember how beautiful the store looked and how much fun it was to buy my first pair of shoes there – Kate Spade slingbacks. I thought I was the bomb!” Planck said at Peter Kate’s 15th anniversary party on Thursday night.

Peter Kate set up a tent outside with high-top cocktail tables to welcome their friends at the special occasion. Planck and other fans of the retailer enjoyed an evening of appetizers and cocktails, music, conversation, and discounts on purchases made that night. Since 2001, Peter Kate has doubled their retail space, adding clothing and accessories, even outerwear.

Houppette, a cosmetics, fragrance and accessories boutique in the Powder Mill shopping center, opened the same month in 2001, and they, too, joined in the 15th anniversary celebration with specialty drinks, product specials and on-site make-up applications.  The two stores often host events together, including the popular Men’s Night Out in December.

“My goal was always to be a neighborhood store where women could enjoy getting personalized experience and come and feel beautiful,” said Houppette owner Cristi Miller. “We wanted our store to become part of the fabric of the Greenville, and we really take great joy in becoming friends with our customers,” she said.
