TSD: Delaware’s best take on events, community and local life

With the likes of Gumby, Van Gogh, and an adoptable kitten, Faithful Friends Animal Society party-goers dressed up in their Halloween best for a Spooktacular evening filled with art and entertainment on October 27th.

The Spooktacular ART Extravaganza costume ball and garden party featured fantastic costumes pop up art galleries at the Kensey Johns Van Dyke House in Old New Castle, which was built in 1820. The event hosted by 2nd ACT Antiques and Rodney Pratt Framing benefitted Faithful Friends.

The nearly 200 year home has seen it’s fair share of historic guests and celebrities alike. The Marquis de Lafayette, a French hero of the American Revolution, attended the wedding of Dorcas Van Dyke and Charles I. du Pont at the home on Oct. 6, 1824. Actor Robin Williams previously attended a dinner party at the home.

Featured artists included Shawn Faust, Steve Oliver, Dennis Young, Amparo Rivera and Mia Murtori. DJ Joe Spinelli was spinning the tunes in his Gumby costume.

The event also included a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and food from Mrs. Snyder’s! The costume contest gave away prizes for People’s Choice, Spooktacular & Most Original. It was a Spooktacular evening for all – including two rescue pups who attended, Zeke and Buddy.
