Wilmingtonians kicked off the 4th of July with an explosive 5K at Rockford Park. The Firecracker 5K featured some 250 runners, who suited up in their favorite red, white and blue and battled the humidity throughout the course, which started at Tower Hill School, traveled up Route 52, then concluded at Rockford Park. The race was sponsored by Wilmington Parks and Rec in memory of Frank D. Vari, City Council president. 43-year-old Stephen Howard, from Wayne, PA, took first place among men with a time of 17.42, and 17-year-old Molly Jacobs from Lincoln University took first among women with 20:05.
