Students got a leg up on their path to a brighter future when a crew of 100 runners crossed the finish line at the Governor’s Race for Excellence on April 10th. U.S. Sen. Tom Carper was on hand to present medals to some of the winners and he took time to greet a large contingent from St. Andrew’s School in Middletown. Many of these boarding school students hail from different states and foreign countries, and they appreciated meeting a U.S. Senator. The inaugural 5K on April 10th benefited Jobs for Delaware Graduates, which supports high-risk students transitioning from school to careers. Governor Pete DuPont established the organization in 1979 to help students who were not choosing to go to college with employment counseling and job placement.
