Storage Section_TCS Store Interior PhotosOrganization nerds, rejoice: In a “first” for the First State, The Container Store will open Oct. 17 in Newark.

The store, which will be the company’s 76th nationwide, will be right across from Christiana Mall. For its grand opening weekend, The Container Store will donate 10 percent of its sales to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.

“Their brand aligns with ours—we love focusing on women and children, and they are a perfect fit,” said Melanie Graham, a company spokeswoman. “We’re really excited to work with them.”

The new store will add 50 jobs to the area, and those 50 spots are coveted retail positions: The Container Store pays its employees 50 to 100 percent more than the industry average in the belief that taking care of employees ensures well-cared for customers. Graham said the company likes to think that one great employee is worth three good ones. She said that all new positions are fully hired, but that the store will continue accepting applications in case an opening arises.

At 25,000 square feet, the store will feature more than 10,000 products, boasting 750 office items, 50 types of laundry hampers, 70 kinds of clothes hangers and much more for kitchen, home and travel purposes.

“We’re just really excited,” Graham said, “to bring our selection of services to customers in the Delaware area.”
