The burger judges were hungry ~ and serious! Let’s face it, it might seem like an honor to be a judge at the Delaware Burger Battle. But how many burgers can a judge really eat? Well, Delaware’s Girl Carnivore is a national celeb when it comes to meat, and she was one of this year’s judges, sharing “Full on Carnivore” to her many fans on Facebook on Saturday. Judging was based on presentation, taste and creativity. New Jersey radio host Scott Macom, food journalist Pam George, and Dan Sanchez with Dorks and Forks podcast were among the 15 judges that day.  When the votes were tallied, the winners were:

Critic’s Choice Winner ~ Chelsea Tavern
People’s Choice Winner ~ Maiale Deli & Salumeria
Best Alternative Burger ~ Home Grown Cafe
The fully volunteer-run event moved this year to Cauffiel House and included burgers from 17 restaurants — all generously donated — and some 800 hungry visitors who marveled at the showdown. Proceeds will benefit the Ministry of Caring’s Emmanuel Dining Room.
