TSD: Delaware’s best take on events, community and local life

unnamedAnd no, not the drink– we’re talking about the real deal: young tap-dancers extraordinaire.

Delaware Theatre Company‘s Bud Martin is holding auditions for tap dancers ages 6 to 16 for the first production of the season, “Maurice Hines is Tappin’ Thru Life.”

Auditions will start at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Delaware Theatre Company, which is located at 200 Water St. in Wilmington. Each performer will be asked to perform 30 seconds to 1 minute of his or her own routine without music, and musical accompaniment won’t be provided. Following individual routines, Maurice Hines himself will teach the group a small routine.

Kids who audition must be able to attend all performances of “Tappin’ Thru Life” and up to a week of rehearsal prior to the first preview. Tappers should note that these auditions are only for the Wilmington run of this production.

Those interested in auditioning must send auditions@delawaretheatre.org the following information (along with any questions from parents):

  • Primary contact (parent/guardian) name
  • Primary contact relationship to performer
  • Primary contact phone number
  • Primary contact email
  • Performer’s name
  • Performer’s age
  • Performer’s headshot and resume (if available)

The song-and-dance show, which runs from Sept. 16 through Oct. 4, was written and is performed by Maurice Hines, who takes the audience on tap-dance journey through his show-biz career. He’s teaming up with the Manzari Brothers, and the show also features the Diva Orchestra, an all-female nine-piece big band.
