The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition recognized heroes for the cause — individuals and organizations who have made a difference in the local battle against breast cancer. Last week’s Shining Light Awards breakfast included several moving remarks by US Senator Chris Coons, philanthropists and cancer survivors Tatiana Copeland and Stacey Bacchieri, and others who introduced this year’s award winners. Sponsors were also recognized, including Hopkins & Sons, whose owner Cathy Hopkins Grieco is on the DBCC resale shop board.

The 2015 winners are:

  • Survivorship ~ Jacquie Connell, who serves as a role model and friend to others with the disease and teaches painting at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute at Christiana Care Health System
  • Healthcare Delivery and Research ~ the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute and Nicholas J. Petrelli, MD
  • Business ~ Delmarva Broadcasting Company of Central Delaware
  • Philanthropy ~ Sussex County Chapter of Women’s Council of Realtors
