The ancient technique of batik fabric-dying will be one of the many new exhibits at this year’s Chinese Festival. The 3-day event kicks off next Friday at the Chinese American Community Center and will again highlight some of the rich diversity of the Chinese American culture here in Wilmington. The Chinese Festival has become a truly unique and important landmark tradition, with cultural performances, gourmet food offerings and special exhibitions. The CACC previewed some of the dancing, cuisine and special exhibitions at a media preview day this week. This year the festival will feature ancient Chinese bronze ritual vessels and  20 pieces of Yunnan batik. Yunnan in southwest China, is one of the regions where batik was originally started thousands of years ago.

Located at 1313 Little Baltimore Pike in Hockessin, the Chinese American Community Center has hosted this event since 1992. Dates and times for this year’s event:

  • Friday, June 19 – 5 pm to 9 pm
  • Saturday, June 20 – 11 am to 9 pm
  • Sunday, June 21 – 12 pm to 6 pm
