The Delaware Children’s Theatre had a certain goal in mind when they hosted a their “Fresh Face” fundraiser to restore the historic building’s facade. That goal — $ 50,000 – seemed so out of reach – that is until an anonymous “Theatre Angel” came along to help make that goal a reality. The anonymous Angel pledged to match individual donations up to $ 25,000. With TV and film actress Tina Sloan headlining her one-woman show on April 18th, the DCT attracted a large and generous audience and became the little theatre that could, grossing $98,000 with its first-ever large-scale fundraiser.

First Lady Carla Markell, Annie Coons and Michele Rollins all supported the effort, serving as honorary chairs and bringing friends with them to the event. Event co-chairs Donna Swajeski, Tracy Rossi and Debbie Cuoco were proud to provide an evening like no other. “We really wanted to offer something fun and different in this community,” said Cuoco. As part of the evening’s festivities, Jill Abbott and Cindy Wilkinson emceed a live auction that was filled with racy costumes, laughs and clever offerings. Following the bidding, Tina Sloan performed “Changing Shoes,” her autobiographical story about her life as a rising starlet and soap star actress and her journey through life’s discoveries. Each new milestone was greeted with a new pair of shoes. “We are tremendously grateful to the many, many people who supported this effort,” said DCT Artistic Producer Donna Swajeski.
