Jane Weitzman, the wife of iconic shoe designer Stuart Weitzman, spoke at the Delaware Art Museum at the request of the Jewish Federation of Delaware last week, offering up fanciful anecdotes about working in the designer shoe industry for decades and meeting some of the best “shoe artists” from around the globe. Jane Weitzman’s job within the company was to create jaw dropping window displays at the retail location on Madison Avenue in New York. Her bold idea was to entice artists to create works of art with Stuart Weitzman shoes as the base. The “wow” shoes were so great that Jane had pictures taken of most of them, which she has now included in a brightly colored coffee table book she recently published called Art & Sole. “The challenge was to keep raising the creativity level and to make the shoes we intended to exhibit even more extraordinary than the last group,” she said. The shoes in Art & Sole  include names like “Corrugated Curves,” which is of course made our of cardboard, “Cab Fab,” which looks like a black and white checkered yellow cab, and “Udderly Divine,” which resembles a black and white cow. The Jewish Federation of Delaware sold tickets to the event as part of their Women or Wisdom (WOW) speaker series.
