Waggies by Maggie & Friends recently celebrated the opening of a new location for the production of its signature dog treats.
The nonprofit is now situated at the Elks Lodge on Carruthers Lane in North Wilmington, Waggies’ President Mary Ann Nolan said in a release. About 75 community members, including bakers, volunteers, donors and vendors, attended the open house event Feb. 26.
The venue features a new countertop donated and installed by McGrory, Inc., and lots of new kitchen equipment by way of a grant from the Longwood Foundation.
Waggies by Maggie & Friends, founded in 2007, prides itself on the quality of its dog treats, but it’s even prouder of its employees, who are Delawareans with intellectual disabilities, Nolan said.
The organization currently employs 11 bakers and works with more than 40 volunteers to produce its all-natural dog treats, which are sold locally in Greenville, Hockessin and several area veterinarians’ offices. Purchases of the treats support employees’ paychecks.
