It was bottoms up for 6,500 rubber ducks at Wilmington’s Riverfront last Thursday, where the Delaware Humane Association launched its first ever rubber duck race! The DHA dropped numbered ducks into the Christina River from the Walnut Street Bridge, where they raced with the current to the finish line at the Market Street Bridge. In the weeks leading up to the race, supporters were offered the opportunity to “adopt” rubber ducks at $5 each. The owners of the first six rubber ducks that crossed the finish line won incredible prizes, including a one-year CrossFit Riverfront membership (Marian Pierce – winner) and $2,500 (Victoria Knotts – winner).
