Trumpeter Clifford Brown would be proud of the renowned performers who pay tribute to his memory each year at the festival named in his honor.
The multi-day Clifford Brown Festival is in fact the largest outdoor free jazz festival on the East Coast, held each year on Rodney Square.
Town Square Delaware visited the Festival on its final day, enjoying the sounds of Brian Culbertson, Habana Sax, and Aniya Jazz. Brown, who was born in Wilmington, DE, was only 25 when he died in a car accident in 1956. At the time, he was already considered to be one of the greatest jazz trumpeters.
