The Buccini/Pollin Group changed the face of the Riverfront on Monday with the grand opening of the Westin Hotel at Wilmington’s Riverfront. Co-president Rob Buccini took great pride in this project, saying he was thrilled that the high-end Westin brand chose to come to Delaware and that the contemporary hotel will have multiple economic impacts in the area, including 123 jobs at the hotel and new convention, event, and visitor business. Buccini received a round of applause in announcing that 74% of the jobs at the hotel have been filled by Wilmington residents and that the hotel has been 90% full or at capacity since it opened last week. Buccini and Riverfront Development Corporation of Delaware Executive Director Michael Purzycki also expressed gratitude to the many individuals who helped them realize this dream, including Buccini/Pollin Co-Presient Chris Buccini, financial backers, designers and a construction team headed by H. Wesley Schwandt. “Wes can take the smallest of renderings and turn it into something magical,” remarked Pollin.
