Something special happened as the Flyers awarded their Community Hero award to the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation Thursday night. A friend of Andrew’s parents told them that something would happen in the game — just as they’re about to honor Andrew — and that it would be a sign from Andrew that he was with his family and friends at the game.
As soon as they were about to introduce the B+ video and tell Andrew’s story on the jumbotron, the Flyers scored a goal against the Canadiens de Montreal! Parent Joe and Chris McDonough were touched by this as well the tremendous support of the Flyers organization. In addition to the half-time award recognition, Flyers Wives Charities sold 50/50 raffle tickets with the proceeds going to the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation to help a deserving local family.
The McDonough family started the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation after their son and brother, Andrew, died from leukemia at the age of 14. The B+ Foundation is committed to fighting childhood cancer.
