The annual luncheon for the Father James Trainer Scholarship fund will be held on Friday, 11/22, at the Chase Center on the Riverfront. This year’s keynote speaker is Ellen Kullman, chair of the Board and CEO of the Dupont Company.

The Trainor Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 by the St.Patrick’s Day Society to honor the memory of Father James Trainor, long-time pastor of St. Mary’s/St .Patrick’s parish, Wilmington, who died in January 2004. Father Trainor was chaplain of the St. Patrick’s Day Society. The fund provides scholarships to a graduate from each of the City’s diocesan elementary schools to a Catholic high school in Delaware. Currently, there are 20 students receiving a Trainor scholarship. Thirty-nine students have received scholarships over the past eight years. The city schools are St. Peter Cathedral; St. Paul’s; St. Elizabeth’s; St. Anthony’s; St. Ann’s and Nativity Academy.  High schools are Padua Academy; St. Elizabeth’s; Salesianum; Ursuline Academy and Archmere Academy.  We envision this to be a lasting effort to assist deserving students in the City as well as a lasting way to celebrate Father Jim’s legacy. Since 2005, the program has provided $200,000 in scholarships.
