TSD: Delaware’s best take on events, community and local life

43-atlgWednesday, Nov. 20  Doors: 6:30 / Show 8:00 pm      ~

World Cafe Live! offers a terrific blend of politics, humor and song on Wed., 11/20, with a performance by Jill Sobule and Julia Sweeney. Jill Sobule brings personal experience and a biting satirical wit to songs about love, sexuality, depression, war, abandonment, and greed. Her detailed character studies of women show that she has the instincts of a sketch humorist. In 2006 she met actress Julia Sweeney, a staple of the “Saturday Night Live” cast in the early 1990s. The two decided to perform together at the James Randi Educational Foundation meeting in Las Vegas in January of 2007, and the Jill and Julia Show took shape more or less spontaneously after that. The show features acoustic folk guitar and singing from Jill and finely crafted stories and some occasional singing from Julia. The result is a surprising mix of politics, controversy, personal stories and sidesplitting humor.
