More than 500 law enforcement officers covered 160 miles over three days, in last month’s annual Torch Run leading up to the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics Delaware Summer Games. Beginning at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, the statewide journey included ceremonies at Legislative Hall, the Wilmington Police Department and the Summer Games Family Picnic before the “Flame of Hope” was carried into the Opening Ceremonies at the Bob Carpenter Center. The First State is the only state to run a lit “Flame of Hope” the entire length of the state prior to its Summer Games.
