In the new Judd Apatow movie “This Is 40,” Graham Parker plays a slightly past his prime British rocker, reunited with his old band and trying to sell a new record to an indifferent public. In other words, he’s playing himself. “As far as I can tell, I’m basically a metaphor for abject failure in Judd’s movie,” Parker was quoted as saying.
Except for the fact that Parker — indeed reunited with his band The Rumour and indeed promoting a new record, “Three Chords Good” — could hardly be branded a failure. Since his searing and soulful 1976 debut “Howlin’ Wind,” Parker has stayed busy and remained sharp, touring regularly and releasing a steady stream of records that may not be as high profile as they were at his popular peak, but which certainly don’t lack for inspiration. If anything, his reunion with the Rumour (with whom he parted ways back in 1980) is something of a victory lap. Tickets $36 to $41.
