TSD: Delaware’s best take on events, community and local life

JonathanCarney_155Students at The Music School of Delaware had a rare opportunity to learn from a world-renowned master when Baltimore Symphony Concertmaster Jonathan Carney joined the Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra for an afternoon earlier this month. The violinist, a graduate of Juilliard, hosted a sectional for string players, along with a master class for several advanced students.

Of the experience, one young violinist said, “Mr. Carney made me feel comfortable during the master class. He was instructive and laid-back at the same time.”

Conducted by Maestro Simeone Tartaglione, The Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra (DYSO) is a full-size youth orchestra of nearly 45 musicians, which offers auditions twice a season to qualified young artists up to age 18. The Music School is holding early auditions for its 2013-2014 academic year on April 13. This ensemble is the only one of its kind in our area to offer regular sectionals, conducting master classes and ear training for its students. The DYSO will perform as part of the St. Anthony’s Italian Festival in June; a future tour of Europe is also planned.
