Members of U of D’s Theta Chi’s fraternity and friends of the Newark Senior Center turned out this weekend to support an “Empty Bowls” fundraising event. The dinner, which raised funds for the Center’s Meals on Wheels program, took place at the Newark Senior Center, where guests received a simple soup and bread meal as well as a handmade bowl to remind them of the empty bowls they filled by attending. Local potters made and donated the soup bowls, soups were donated by local restaurants and individuals, and service came with a smile from the polite college co-eds who volunteered their time on Sunday night. Each year over 35,000 meals are delivered to homebound seniors in the greater Newark area by the Newark Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program.
