They had just two chances to impress at Open Mic Night at the World Cafe Live’s Queen Theatre in Wilmington last night. Every Tuesday local musicians, singers and poets can perform 2 songs or readings, and patrons who don’t know what to expect, seem to enjoy whatever comes their way. Fourteen took to the stage last night. The artist who traveled the furthest? That would have to be the electric guitarist from South Africa. And Kandyce Ashira Davis sang her songs while performing sign language. “Some of these acts really surprise us,” said the night’s emcee Paul Woznicki. “There is just a bunch of talent in and around Wilmington, and we invite any budding artist to consider joining us any Tuesday night.”
