TSD: Delaware’s best take on events, community and local life

For four days and nights, theater audiences and thrill seekers will delight with unconventional and experimental performances at Fringe Wilmington Festival 2012 in downtown Wilmington. This year, in addition to performance art, the festival will include cinema and visual art. On opening night — Thursday, Sept 27, patrons can see any of 17 performances at 12 venues in and around the Market Street area from 6 to 9 pm. Tickets are $5 each.

Comedian Brings Her Story to Fringe
New York City-based actress and playwright, Leanne Linsky will perform her critically-acclaimed, one-woman show Lady Luck is a Whore at the Fringe Wilmington Festival. An autobiographical sketch comedy, the show is about Linsky’s experiences with marriage, moving from Waukegan, Illinois, to Las Vegas, selling guns, and several other adventures that have come her way. The show is directed by Trish Vignola, a Second City Trained Director and Standup Comedian. Linsky premiered the 40-minute version of her show at The Peoples Improv Theater in New York City in November, 2011, and was invited back for extended runs in January and April. She debuted the 55-minute version of the show at the Capital Fringe Festival this past July in Washington D.C. After her run at the Fringe Wilmington Festival, Linsky will perform Lady Luck at the United Solo Festival (October 17th) in New York City. “Festivals are excellent venues for emerging and establish artists, and enable us to do what we love. The Fringe Wilmington Festival is a tailored fit for my show, it truly is a unique forum for creativity,” said Linsky.

When Linsky first moved to New York City six years ago, her new friends learned she had lived in Vegas and had been married (and divorced) twice and suggested she write a book. Linsky eventually decided to write a show. The show is a series of character sketches; Linsky plays over 12 different people including her parents, both of her ex-husbands, and herself. In case you weren’t aware, parenting, dating, marrying or crossing a comedian in any way, will improve your chances of being in their act by about 100%.
