It was a glorious day on Saturday as the City of New Castle celebrated Delaware’s birthday with a parade, concerts, magic shows and fireworks. Separation Day takes place the second Saturday of June each year in remembrance of Delaware’s separation from Great Britain. On June 15, 1776, the three lower counties of New Castle, Kent and Sussex proclaimed their independence and paved their way toward a new “Delaware State.” Again this year, schools, clubs, drill teams, bands, civic and veterans groups marched proudly down Delaware Street to the old Courthouse.
