On a sweltering end-of-July weekend, the Northern Delaware USTA wrapped up another successful season with a playoff round culminating in Sunday’s championship finals at the Rodney Street Courts in Wilmington.
Teams from Kent and New Castle counties competed across five levels to represent the Delaware District in the sectional playoffs in Princeton this September. This year saw another rise in USTA league participation, with over 3000 active players.
Saturday’s heat brought a slight change in format with the league adopting the rare “no-ad” scoring to reduce match time under the blazing summer sun.
Competition was fierce and matches were close but as always, camaraderie and sportsmanship remained the priority among the thriving Delaware USTA tennis community led by league director Tom Ellis.
