This week’s Delaware Five highlights competition with events featuring some sort of friendly games. Sussex hosts the Senior Softball World Series while Rehoboth Beach hosts a skimboarding competition. Other events include a watermelon festival, silent auction and Beatles tribute at the Freeman Stage.


What: Senior Softball World Series

When: Through 8/13, check schedule for game times.

Where: Lower Sussex Little League Complex, Roxana, 19970

Who: Delaware State Parks

Why: Roxana hosts the Senior Softball World Series for its 8th straight year, and presents an opportunity to be part of a national ESPN broadcast on Saturday. The event features competition from America and countries abroad.

How much: Admission to the event is free.

 


What: 30th Annual East Coast Skimboarding Championship

When: 8/13 and 8/14

Where: Bellevue Street, Dewey Beach

Who: Rehoboth & Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce

Why: International skimboarding talent will gather in Dewey Beach this weekend for a competition

How much: Admission to the event is free.

 


What: Watermelon Festival

When: 8/13, 3 to 6 p.m.

Where: 511 Rehoboth Ave, Rehoboth Beach

Who: Rehoboth Beach Museum and Grove Park

Why: This festival is centered around a refreshing fruit and is an opportunity to visit Rehoboth Beach as the summer season wraps up. The event features watermelon eating and seed spitting

How much: Admission is only $3 for ages 13 and older, $2 for children ages 5 to 12. Children 4 and younger are free.


What: BeatleMania Live!

When: 8/13 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: 36097 Sand Cove Road, Selbyville, 19975

Who: The Freeman Stage

Why:  This event offers the opportunity to hear over 35 classic Beatles songs at the Freeman Stage’s outdoor venue.

How much: Admission to the event is $10 per person and free for children under 18.


What: Third Annual Silent Auction and Benefit for AIDS Delaware

When: 8/13, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: 50 Wilmington Ave, Rehoboth Beach

Who: Gallery 50

Why: This event offers an opportunity to bid on art and support a good cause in the state of Delaware.

How much: Admission to the auction is free, but the price of art up for auction will vary.
