The Wilmington Riverfront bustled with activity on Saturday, June 25, 2011, as a result of the inaugural Miles for Children 5K run / walk. Of 218 registered runners and walkers, 199 individuals completed the race. 39 children gathered with great enthusiasm at 8:45 a.m. to kick off the event with a Kiddie K. All were greeted at the finish line with a medal and a free ticket to the Delaware Children’s Museum. Many families and children participated in the popular 1.5 mile run / walk, which benefited the Children’s Beach House.
Competitors and attendees gathered at Joe’s Crab Shack for a post-race party. Guests enjoyed treats courtesy of Sweet Lucy’s Ice Cream and Treats and Five Star Foods. David Zeidman and the Juggling Hoffmans wowed the youngsters with their talents. In addition, A.I. Du Pont High School provided face painting and the Delaware Children’s Museum provided other children’s activities. Families also learned about fitness courtesy of CrossFit Riverfront.
