Since we have finally arrived at the spring season, I suppose this saying is appropriate – out with the old, in with the new. And believe it or not, this is true even for the lighting in our homes. Many of the incandescent bulbs that we are accustom to are being phased out.
All the buzz is about the Light-Emitting Diode (LED). These bulbs have several glowing chips in them that provide illumination, and the benefits are enormous. LED’s have extremely long life, they are easy to dispose of, and they have high efficiency, which means more light per watt.
The drawbacks are that they do not work in every application, they are expensive and that the technology is new and not all LED’s are of the same quality. When making a significant investment in this type of product, we recommend that you work with a lighting specialist, not a box store clerk.
Trust us. You will be happier with the results.
