After two decades of serving as a gathering place for friends, families and longtime regulars, 2 Fat Guys American Grill will close its doors permanently later this month.
In a message shared on social media this week, th
e owner and founder announced that the restaurant’s final day of operation will be Sunday, December 28, 2025, marking the end of a 20-year run in the Hockessin community.
“It is with both gratitude and sadness that I share the news,” the owner wrote, explaining that after careful consideration and looking ahead to 2026, the decision was made not to continue into the new year.
Opened as a personal dream, 2 Fat Guys grew into a neighborhood staple known for its casual atmosphere, comfort food favorites, and welcoming bar. Over the years, it became a place where birthdays were celebrated, friendships were formed, and memories were made over burgers, wings, and drinks.
“For the past 20 years, 2 Fat Guys has been my dream and my second home,” the post read. “What started as an idea grew into a place where friends gathered, families celebrated, and countless memories were made.”
The owner said they plan to be at the restaurant throughout the final weekend and encouraged customers to stop in one last time—whether for a meal, to share a story, or simply to say goodbye.
The announcement also expressed gratitude to the people who helped sustain the restaurant over the years, including family members, loyal guests, and the many staff members who contributed to its character and success.
“I am incredibly grateful to my family for their constant support, to our loyal guests who kept coming back year after year, and especially to the many staff members who gave this place its heart,” the owner wrote.
As the restaurant prepares to close, the message struck a reflective tone, emphasizing pride in being part of the local community and appreciation for the relationships built along the way.
“I am so proud to have been part of the Hockessin community, and I will always cherish the memories we created together over these past two decades,” the post concluded.
