Dover Federal Credit Union and Chesapeake Utilities, also in Dover, have been honored with the 2025 Delaware Warrior Friendly Business Award for their commitment to supporting military personnel, veterans, and their families.
The awards, presented by the Joint Military Affairs Committee (JMAC) of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce and New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, celebrate businesses that demonstrate exceptional efforts in creating inclusive environments for those who have served in the armed forces.
“While our roots are deeply embedded in supporting the military community, this award highlights the credit union’s ongoing efforts to provide financial stability and empowerment for service members and their families,” said Deb Jewell, assistant vice president of marketing at Dover Federal Credit Union.
Dover Federal Credit Union
Founded in 1958 to serve the military community at Dover Air Force Base, Dover Federal Credit Union (DFCU) continues its longstanding tradition of supporting U.S. service members, National Guard members, and veterans.
The credit union’s commitment to the military extends beyond financial services to include robust hiring initiatives.
DFCU recruits veterans through military job fairs, partners with the Veterans Multi-Services Center, and prioritizes veteran hires in its retail department.
The credit union also offers financial literacy programs specifically tailored for veterans and their families, hosting monthly financial education classes at Warriors Helping Warriors. In addition, Dover Federal sponsors veteran-centric events, such as career fairs and the First State Air Show, and provides funding to local organizations like USO Delaware and veterans’ shelters.

Chesapeake Utilities
Chesapeake Utilities, a leading energy provider in Delaware, has made significant strides in integrating veterans into its workforce.
In 2024, the company partnered with over 130 veteran service organizations, leading to the hiring of 12 veterans and bringing the total number of veterans employed by the company to 102.
“Veterans bring invaluable leadership, teamwork, and technical expertise to Chesapeake Utilities,” said Michael Cassel, vice president of governmental and regulatory affairs at Chesapeake Utilities. “This recognition reflects our dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion within our company and the broader community.”
Chesapeake Utilities supports its veterans through an Employee Resource Group (ERG) that offers mentorship and career development while raising awareness of the skills veterans bring to the workforce. In addition to internal support, the company participates in veteran-focused outreach programs, including Wreaths Across America, Honor Flight Network, and Trees for Troops.
The company is also dedicated to helping veterans transition into civilian careers through hiring fairs, collaborations with the Delaware Joint Military Affairs Committee, and participation in the Dover Air Force Base Career-a-thon.
Both Dover Federal Credit Union and Chesapeake Utilities will be recognized for their contributions during the JMAC’s State of the Guard Address on Feb. 20.
The event will also feature a briefing on the current missions, operations, and personnel of the Delaware National Guard.
