A New Castle County senior is now living under a safe, secure roof thanks to a coordinated effort led by Roofs from the Heart, with support from GAF, Bank of America, and Good Neighbors Home Repair. The full roof replacement was provided at no cost to the homeowner through donated materials, grant funding, and volunteer-driven services designed to protect the health and stability of vulnerable residents across Delaware.
The homeowner, a retired gentleman facing multiple health conditions, had been living in deteriorating conditions since a tree struck his home in 2019. The damage caused significant leaks to the roof and bathroom areas, leading to mold concerns and unsafe living conditions. Without the financial ability to make repairs, he was referred to Roofs from the Heart by a close friend who recognized the urgency of his situation.
Roofs from the Heart stepped in to coordinate the full project. G. Fedale Roofing and Siding conducted a structural assessment and provided installation services at a reduced rate, replacing damaged fascia, installing aluminum capping, and adding a complete gutter system to prevent further deterioration. GAF, North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, donated all roofing materials through its GAF Community Matters initiative, which leverages industry expertise and resources to build resilient communities. Good Neighbors Home Repair addressed critical bathroom damage caused by long-term water intrusion, ensuring a safe and livable interior environment. Bank of America contributed a ten-thousand-dollar grant to fund roof replacement projects in New Castle County, marking its third consecutive year of partnership with Roofs from the Heart.
“This project reflects the heart of our mission, restoring dignity, health, and safety through reliable housing,” said Kate Domanski, Executive Director of Roofs from the Heart. “As housing costs rise and repair needs grow, more Delaware families are slipping through the cracks. That’s why our work providing safe, secure roofs matters more than ever. When we repair a roof, we’re not just fixing a home, we are helping rebuild hope and resilience in our communities.”
Roofs from the Heart was founded by G. Fedale Roofing and Siding and received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in July 2023. The organization focuses on replacing failing roofs to prevent displacement, reduce health risks, increase energy efficiency, and support long-term neighborhood stability for underserved residents. GAF has been protecting homes for more than 135 years and continues to invest in community-based programs that promote safety, sustainability, and housing access. Good Neighbors Home Repair is dedicated to ensuring all people can live in a warm, safe, dry, and healthy home through no-cost emergency repairs. Bank of America continues to support organizations working to improve housing security and strengthen communities across Delaware.
