Ghouls, ghosts and spooky creatures galore gathered Sunday for the third annual Highlands Community Halloween Parade hosted by the Delaware Art Museum, an event that started with the neighbors.

Three years ago, a backyard conversation between Lindsey DiSabitino, Teresa Kenny and Jessica Rollo focused on the idea of creating a Halloween parade and event designed for all ages to enjoy, and the Highlands Community Association took it up.

The two hour Halloween Parade Sunday ended at the museum with an after-party with crafts, costume contests, face painting, food and — of course — trick-or-treating.

This year’s special guest judges included Sen. Sarah McBride, D-Wilmington, Wilmington City Council member James Spadola, Delaware Art Museum Director Molly Giordano and Chris Kenny, CEO of Kenny Family Shoprite stores.

Local teens from schools in the area volunteer and use those hours towards community service required for school.

The festivities are funded through donations by the Highlands Community members and supporters such as eXp Realty’s Scott Deputy and Dani Van Drew with DRPR Strategies.
