Building on the mouth-watering momentum of the seven-year old Delaware Burger Battle, the competition’s founder – and TSD contributor – JulieAnne Cross has unveiled another delicious new event, the inaugural Grilled Cheese Battle.
The toasted spectacular is on the griddle for May 10, 2018, 6:30 p.m. at Delaware Park.
The new indoor competition will pit ten chefs vying for a single People’s Choice trophy, with the winner determined by guest votes.
Tickets, entitle guests to a sample of each entry and two drink tickets for beer or wine, as well as entertainment. Pricing begins at $30. Parking is free, with valet available for a fee.
Ten powerhouse grilled cheesers have laid down their claim to the title:
Home Grown Café
Metro Pub & Grill
Maiale Deli & Salumeria
Stone Balloon Ale House
“Grilled cheese seemed like a fun way to level up on food competitions in Delaware,” said Cross. “The combination of cheese melted on bread goes back to at least ancient Roman times. And it’s so simple…but then again, how does one win a trophy with such a simple concept? The chefs are certainly intrigued and people are hungry.”
Cross is also excited to host her food battle fundraiser at a new location. She says Delaware Park is a cool venue that created some interesting ways to make the event affordable.
A portion of the event’s proceeds will support the Food Bank of Delaware, which provides nutritious foods to Delawareans in need and facilitates long-term solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty through community education and advocacy.
