Thousands Take the Plunge for Special Olympics Delaware

Hearty dunk and dashers raised nearly $1,000,000 yesterday in Rehoboth for the 27th annual Lewes Polar Bear Plunge. The official count: 3,383 courageous polar bears, who jumped into the Atlantic on Sunday, helping raise $875,000 for Special Olympics of Delaware.

Teams of high school students, businesses, families, even veteran bears who hop from state to state to participate in the plunge sprinted into the bone-chilling 37-degree ocean. Several teams went to great lengths to dress in costume and show their spirit as they defied the chillyx temps outside.
