Joe and Jill Biden Awarded Marvel Cup by State Chamber

Former Vice President Joe Biden received a lengthy standing ovation as he and wife Jill were awarded the prestigious Marvel Cup by the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce on January 8th .

While Dr. Jill Biden was unable to attend the annual dinner, Joe Biden thanked the 1,200 business leaders, elected officials and dignitaries gathered for the recognition, assuring them on behalf of his family that “Delaware is written on my heart.” Biden also proudly listed many accomplishments of his wife who, as Second Lady worked to bring attention to the sacrifices made by military families, notably through the Joining Forces initiative launched with First Lady Michelle Obama.

The award presentation—which is kept secret until the night of the dinner—took place prior to Biden’s keynote remarks. Biden, who has been on tour promoting his memoir, “Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose,” took a break from traveling to attend this year’s event.

The Marvel Cup Award was established in 1951 to honor Delawareans who have made an outstanding contribution to the state, community, or society. The State Chamber’s highest honor is named in memory of the Honorable Josiah Marvel, the first president of the State Chamber from 1913-1914. The award was originally presented to Marvel upon his retirement and has been imprinted with the name of each recipient.
