Michael Smith, director of strategic initiatives and partnerships at University of Delaware’s College of Health Sciences, was recently honored by his colleagues at the school with a prestigious award recognizing “significant accomplishments.”
Smith received the John Warren Excellence in Leadership and Service Award, an honor designed to highlight innovation by UD administrators in creatively seizing opportunities and effectively addressing challenges in advancing the school’s mission. Nominations are made by other supervisory staff and award winners are determined by a panel of UD leaders.
A UD grad himself, Smith’s responsibilities at the college including community engagement, strategic planning, government affairs, communications, marketing and development. “With the mission of training the next generation of healthcare professionals, it’s our job to enhance that experience through direct connection to the community,” said Smith.
“We’ve been a value add to the community through our clinics and research. I’m just happy that my work has helped advance that mission and have a positive impact on the community.”
