Ideal temps and a record fundraiser for 2017 Reindeer Run and Romp for Special Olympics! Nearly 1,500 runners sporting reindeer antlers, Christmas togs and other jolly gear jogged down Newark’s Academy Street on Friday completing a 5k course and raising a record $70,000 to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Delaware.
People of all ages took part in the dash; hundreds of families, friends, and a few high school track teams put on their holiday best and made a night of it. But the leaders broke away from the pack, with Will Rehrig crossing the finish line first at 15:38. The top female was Elizabeth Swierzbinski with a time of 17:45.
