Tennis Players Double up for Charity

It was ‘game on’ for 60 Wilmington area tennis players who got down to some serious fun on September 17th, taking part in the third annual Delaware Doubles Challenge.

The event raised more than $4,000 for the Delaware Tennis Foundation, which provides financial assistance to several youth and adult tennis initiatives across the state, with emphasis on programs and activities that help juniors and underrepresented communities participate.

The all-doubles event at Wilmington Country Club always draws a great mix of participants. But with generous prizes and bragging rights on TSD, the competition seemed a bit stronger this year. Congratulations to Laura duPont and Marta Drane, who took 1st place in the women’s doubles category, with Jill Jacobs and Gayle Connelly earning a spot in the finals. And congrats to Stacey Bacchieri and her son Nolan Bacchieri, who won the mixed doubles flight.

Delaware Tennis Foundation President Paul Costello was grateful so many tennis enthusiasts spread the word about the event. “The support that DTF gets from the Tennis community is heart warming. It was great to see so many players having fun while contributing to help those less fortunate learn to play the game.”
