Bidermann Golf Course was a picturesque location to host Cancer Support Community Delaware’s (CSCDE) Dickie DiSabatino Golf Classic on July 17, 2017. The private golf course welcomed a sold out crowd again this year with nearly 130 golfers.
Golfers enjoyed an 18-hole shamble kicked off with a grilled lunch. Golf contests and a helicopter ball drop added to the fun. A few hundred golf balls were dropped on the putting green from a helicopter with the owner of the ball landing closest to the hole winning the 50/50 prize money. The After Party and dinner was hosted at Vicmead and included a catered BBQ style dinner, open bar, silent and live auctions hosted by auctioneer, Jeff Hammond. Live auction items were popular including club suite tickets to a 2016 Super Bowl match-up game with NY Patriots v.s. Atlanta Falcons, New Year’s Eve tickets to Dallas Cowboys v.s. Philadelphia Eagles, and a one week stay at an Outer Banks, North Carolina 7-bedroom, beachfront home.
Many Delaware based businesses showed support by sending their best foursome to take part. The crew from DiSabatino Construction boasted the best foursome net score of the day.
Thanks to the support from many generous sponsors and individuals, collectively $60,000+ was raised. Top event sponsors included Pettinaro, Elwyn Specialty Care, Uptrend, WSFS, WSMT Insurance, M&T Bank and EDiS Company.
Entering the event’s 22nd annual year, the namesake tournament began thanks to the late, Dickie DiSabatino. An original and founding member of the board of directors, Dickie had an idea to host a golf outing to raise funds for CSCDE. Twenty-two years later the event is CSCDE’s largest annual fundraising event.
Dickie’s grandson, Adam DiSabatino (EDiS Company) is proud to keep Dickie’s tradition going strong as a member of the planning committee. “I’m happy my grandfather’s memory is living on through CSCDE and golf – both of which he loved dearly. Dickie would be tremendously proud to see the tradition going strong with many people supporting the event and CSCDE after 22 years.”
All funds raised support CSCDE’s critical work as a statewide nonprofit organization providing support services to cancer patients, caregivers and their families. Support groups, mind body/stress reduction classes such as Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi and nutrition classes are accessible to all at no cost to the participant and their families. In 2016, CSCDE served 900+ people throughout Delaware and provided 13,000 visits to patients, caregivers and family members. For more information, visit www.cancersupportdelaware.org.
