Highmark wants us all to get healthy! So the insurer invited 23 health and human service organizations to participate in their annual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community at Bellevue State Park on Saturday, June 3rd. And while the weather wasn’t perfect, over 2,000 walkers turned out for the 5K walk.
Each of the participating nonprofits raised funds for their own organizations, and a portion also went to Highmark. A win-win for many of Delaware’s critical service agencies.
All the whoes from Read Aloud Delaware enjoyed the walk. What? Haven’t you heard? their Dr. Seuss hats were all the talk. And team Friendship House, with 300 walkers, also went the cap route this year, raising $30,000 and bundles of cheer.
Antoinette, who walked with 83 others for Family Promise, said that the organization that aims to prevent and end homelessness was her safe haven during a dark time in her family’s lives. “Family Promise is such a gift & blessing. Walking, volunteering or giving back to the community in any way, just makes the most sense and brings us the most fulfillment.”
In total, the Highmark Walk has raised $115,000 and benefitted the nonprofits listed below. If you would still like to donate, you can support your favorite charity via this link.
