Architectural Masterpieces for Pets at "Barkitecture"

This design-build competition was really for the furry and adorable.  Barkitecture is an architectural competition of cleverly-designed custom-built dog houses, cat condos, and pet furniture. Presented annually by the Faithful Friends Animal Society, this year’s event took place on April 18th. Entries included a dog house made from Friskies cat food cans, a dog bed made from Legos, and a custom cat car called the “Cat-i-llac.” The one-of-a-kind structures were designed to spoil animal lovers and their pets.

The design-build competition was held at Arscht Hall in WIlmington and included entries from professionals, amateurs, and students. Entries were auctioned to benefit FFAS, a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization with a no-kill shelter in Wilmington.

  • I was very lucky to go it was a wonderful event. I was very impressed with the entry from the 14 year old middle school students who took second place in the cat condo. It looked like a lot of thought and time went into it and I think it was very brave to go up against adults.
