Wheelchair Tennis Championships

Several high level tennis players competed again this year in the USTA Middle States Wheelchair Tennis Championships at Wilmington’s DuPont Country Club, showing great sportsmanship, skill and maneuverability across the court. Thirty experienced players from towns throughout the northeast participated in singles and doubles events at the September 27-28 tournament, which was sponsored by the Wheelchair Tennis Program of Delaware.  In wheelchair tennis, the ball may bounce twice before a player makes contact with his racquet, but the first ball must land inside the lines. To play the sport, participants usually invest in high performance sport wheelchairs that provide optimal stability and can turn quickly.
