IL CUORE (“eel quarry”) “The Heart” wines are produced by winemaker Dennis Patton from premium wines grapes grown in the North Coast, the viti-cultural heart of California. The original art for IL CUORE was created by Dan Rizzie, whose bold cubistic paintings are in the permanent collections of both the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The label design celebrates the moderate daily consumption of wine as part of a healthy and passionate lifestyle.
Zinfandel from this region is legendary and has long been attributed to complex soils, warm daytime temperatures, and foggy nights. This climate provides ideal ripening and flavor maturation while protecting the vital natural acidity required to produce wines that taste great with a wide variety of foods. Considered by many as a “native California” grape, DNA analysis has determined Zinfandel originates from Croatia but has thrived in the Golden State’s sunshine.
IL CUORE Zinfandel and Petite Sirah grapes are harvested from three vineyards in historic Redwood Valley and on the Ukiah bench, all premium wine grape growing regions of Mendocino County. Premium Zinfandel wine has bountiful fruit aroma and flavors leading to some of California’s finest red wines. Old-school winemaking techniques and gentle use of oak barrel aging are used to make a ready-to-drink Zinfandel in its youth, yet with cellar-aging potential for another 5 years.
This wine has a mild aroma suggesting dark cherries with a woodsy and peppery note. The wine is medium-bodied and is supple on the palate, with pleasing flavors of ripe berries, plums and black pepper. It is a classically styled elegant wine. 1,958 cases produced.
IL CUORE Chardonnay is produced from grapes grown exclusively in the cool coastal region of Mendocino County, the viti-cultural heart of California. Vineyards in this region invoke Chardonnays that are fresh with apple and pear flavors, complemented by floral nuances in the bouquet. This vintage blend includes 6% Viognier to enhance tropical fruit aromas and add flavor complexity on the palate.
The fresh, graceful style of IL CUORE Chardonnay results from cold fermentation in small stainless steel vessels and small components of barrel fermentation in mostly neutral small oak cooperage. The gentle use of oak in its winemaking offers versatility with a wide range of foods.
IL CUORE Chardonnay is recommended with fish, shellfish, crab cakes, game birds, light pasta, vegetarian casserole and mildly spicy Asian cuisine. 1,812 cases produced.
